Breaking Down The Interview Process
Posted by:
DCL Recruitment

February 2025
We know the interview process can be daunting where nerves can wreak havoc causing you to trip over your words. The best way to ensure you can counter this and get back on track to a smooth and positive interview experience is by ensuring you’ve prepared as best you can.
It’s key to remember that an initial interview is really just a conversation for both parties to decide if the job is the right fit. Keep in mind this is the time for you to also assess if the employer and job align with your aspirations.
The initial interview may be conversational or may follow a more formal and structured format. Either way the interviewer will be wanting to ascertain if you have the right qualifications, skills and experience to do the job.
You may be asked competency-based interview questions which ask you to provide examples of a situation at work where you for example, exceeded customer expectations or how you were involved and added value to a team project. This allows the interviewer insight into your hands on capabilities.
By providing a brief outline of your situation and the tasks or steps you took in dealing with the customer or what part you played working on the project (as with these examples) you will then be asked to describe the actions you took and the subsequent results and your accomplishments. Tying these examples to the job you are interviewing for will show your understanding of the job and expectations.
Additionally, the interviewer will be wanting to determine if you are the right team fit, what your career goals are and if you are genuinely interested in their organisation. You may be asked what type of work environment you are looking for or what’s your preferred management style. Make sure you are prepared and do your research on the company. Have any questions prepared to ensure you come away with all the information you need to make a decision on the job too.
