How to secure interviews.

The key job of your resume is to get employers excited about the prospect of meeting you. So we want to help you create one that ticks all the boxes (and presses all their buttons!).Resume Tips

You can start by downloading a copy of our resume template here. Then follow these simple tips:

Keep it concise and relevant.

Very quickly, the reader wants to know what you have done, where you have done it and what you have achieved. The information should be well laid out and easy to read.

Try to stay within three to five pages.
Include key words from the job ad.
Give examples of achievements to back-up your claims about yourself.
Use positive language that demonstrates how you’ve added value to each role.
Avoid saying too much, and make sure that what you do say is relevant to the job you’re applying for.
Check and double-check spelling and grammar.

What to include.

A brief explanation of why your skills and experience make you perfect for the job (which should also be the focus of a short covering letter).

Your employment history in reverse chronological order starting with your most recent job.

Restrict the information to the past ten years or three or four positions.
List the ‘to’ and ‘from’ dates by month and year.
Describe each company if necessary, and your role, responsibilities and key achievements.
Use bullet points to aid readability.
Personal details including qualifications and non-work achievements or responsibilities.
Your contact details including links to any online profiles you have such as LinkedIn.

Adding referees can be useful but is not essential; and you should not include photographs, your age, marital status, religion, family details or hobbies.
